Who are we and what's this academy about?

If you’ve ever asked yourself any of these questions, you’re in the right place:

What are RC Quadcopters and how do they fly?

Where can I buy RC Quadcopters from and are they expensive?

Where can I fly RC Quadcopters?

What equipment and tools will I need?

Are RC Quadcopters hard to fly? Are they expensive when you crash?

Are people racing First Person View (FPV) RC Quadcopters?

Why do I need to learn to fly if my Quadcopter has an onboard GPS?

Who are we?

Hi, I’m Greg and I’m one of the founders of The Academy. I’m also a digital entrepreneur, RC Quadcopter and RC Helicopter enthusiast, dirt biker and golfer.

My interests are predominantly around the First Person View (FPV) racing side of the hobby. I really enjoy building, tweaking and tuning new frames then racing them at my local field.

Hi, I’m George and I'm the other founder of the online flight trainer. I’ve been an RC enthusiast for over 20 years now and have owned a number of RC Planes, Helicopters and Quadcopters. Officially, i'm retired, but I still work part time as a commercial UAV operator.

George

I'm a passionate instructor and have been lucky to work with a number of students over the last 18 years. I've been fortunate enough to observe and learn from other clubs both in Australia and internationally, which has allowed me to benchmark our training methodologies against worlds best practices.

What’s this Online Flight Training Academy all about?

To cut a long story short, I met George 4 years ago when he taught me how to fly RC Quadcopters. He’s a certified Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA) certified RC Multi-Rotor, Plane and Helicopter instructor and flies UAVs commercially for a company based in Sydney.

With my digital online skills and his experience as an instructor, we saw an opportunity to help other Pilots out there who didn’t have access to the right people or resources!

The Academy is designed for anyone who wants to fly any form of RC Quadcopter or Drone, which includes high end aerial photography aircraft to top speed FPV racers, and everything in between.

The videos are designed to give you a solid base knowledge of RC Quadcopters before taking to the skies. Once you get to the flight lessons, they’ll start off with very basic skills and by the time you get to the end of the module, you’ll be confidently flying some very complex manoeuvres.

The best way to get started in this hobby is by learning and mastering the basics whilst flying line of sight. It’s pretty simple when you have step-by-step tutorial videos and access to qualified instructors, like our students do.
